For those of us in the United Kingdom this Thursday (June 4th) means the chance to vote for our Members of European Parliament. At a time when the credibility of politicians — of any persuasion — is at an all time low, and with many people asking why they should bother to choose between candidates at all, it is, however, vitally important to make the effort to vote.
Firstly, there is the standard stance that if you don’t vote in elections then you have very little right to complain when the people who get elected start rampaging through your life.
At times of potential low turnout, however, there is a more urgent reason to get to the polling station. The sad truth is that a minority of those people who will show up to vote on the 4th will be hoping to install extremely right-wing candidates whose politics are based around bigotry and racism. If liberal-minded people decide to protest by refusing to vote, then they may just hand the election to the right-wing extremists on a silver platter.
Okay, I tried to think of a way to link this to the world of design, but I can’t. Just go and vote on Thursday, okay?
