CASE STUDY: Pony Club music packaging

album cover
Before they became Pony Club, they were called Fixed Stars, and I designed several singles and an album for them. The name changed, but singer Mark Cullen and his manager John Carroll came back to Shark Attack for the design of their next album, Home Truths. The tone was to centre around ‘bleak urban spaces’.
Flip through the CD booklet
Early on I suggested the idea of knocking the images ‘out of alignment’ with the page spreads so that the image for one spread actually begins on the preceding spread. This was to reflect the sense of dislocation that the album conjured up.
The grungy, ‘scuzzed-up’ joins between the images added to this feeling of shabbiness, as depicted in the images themselves.
